Study Options at IBCD

IBCD no longer certifies anyone from a distance, since we require students to take the Observation, Role Play & Tutorial classes in person (which would take a minimum of 28 weeks). For anyone outside our area, we recommend pursuing certification through NANC (the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors). You may use IBCD courses on tape to meet their first requirement. This procedure is spelled out on our website at http://www.ibcd.org/certification.html.

The following options are still available for those in the San Diego area.

Audit Program in Biblical Counseling

An Audit student attends classes, but does not complete any written assignments. No credit is given for attendance. The Audit Program consists of the following five courses: Introduction to Biblical Counseling, Observation of Biblical Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, Advanced Seminar in Biblical Counseling, and Methods of Psychological Counseling. An audit student may upgrade into the Certificate Program upon acceptance into the program, completion of homework and payment of the credit fee.

Basic Studies Program

A Basic Studies student takes our four lecture classes (in person or by tape) and completes all required homework. If the student passes all four courses, a diploma will be issued. The courses are: Introduction to Biblical Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, Advanced Seminar in Biblical Counseling, Methods of Psychological Counseling.

Certificate Training Program

A Certificate student first completes the Basic Studies Program and the Observation of Biblical Counseling Course. The staff will evaluate the student before acceptance into the Role Play Counseling course and once again before acceptance into the Tutorial Counseling course. Upon satisfactory completion of all seven courses, Ceertification in Biblical Counseling is conferred.
